Briefly, outline the context and scope of your role. 

My duties & Responsibil­ities as a leader are to provide admi­nistrative and devel­opmental supervision for up to 8 Local Case Managers. I need to monitor the allocati­on of Bilingual Guid­es and Volunteer. It’s my duty to ensure compliance wi­th specified budgeta­ry parameters and se­rvice delivery targe­ts including approval of items within de­legation. I, provide leadership and specia­list support to Local Case Managers with regards to complex and sensitive cases which are necessary to develop the organization. I have to provide monthly repo­rts to the Regional Coordinator in relat­ion to KPIs, Budget, WH&S and client out­come. Liaise with the MRC Manager to ensure an effective, collabor­ative and safe worki­ng environment for SSI staff in accorda­nce with subcontract­or arrangements. I do monitor and administ­er local CSNet and hard copy data to ens­ure accurate and com­prehensive records that reflect SSI Poli­cy and Procedure.

It is my duty to ensure that appropri­ate exit planning is undertaken to ensure regular throughout of clients and to minimize caseloads. I have to coordinate and monit­or an on-call roster and associated reco­rds.

The perspective of European is different from the US; they define the term leadership as the attainment of personal power.

Each subordinate and local case managers of SSI organization and MRC manager look upon me for efficient guidance towards completion of the goal. The scope of leadership in my organization is the framework of abilities and skills that enable efficient me to lead other subordinates and local case managers as coaches. Leadership focuses primarily on developing people and their capabilities. As opined by (Bryman, 2013), leadership can be categorized into five steps- execution, partnerships, others,communications skills, and self. Each element has its own characteristic to develop the qualities of a leader. Execution is the category where the leader develops the highest point of excellence by efficient training and self-confidence. The partnership is based on teamwork; an organization can run successfully only if its subordinates and local case managers are working as a team which in turn will raise the profitability of the organization. Others are the developing people in the organization; the subordinates and local case managers working under an efficient leader tend to develop their inner abilities eventually when the leader starts motivating them towards their job role. Communications is the increasing performance of the subordinates and local case managers; when the leader completes his objective by efficient guidance to each subordinate and local case managers of the organization by the process of feedback sessions, effectual communications. Self is the part where the leader set an example to other subordinates and local case managers of the organization, the abilities, and skills of the leader are enhanced in such a way that he can attain the position to set an example in front of others. This will increase the motivation level of each subordinate and local case managers while increasing the work output. The competencies of leadership help to attain the highest level of qualities in leaders of an organization. Their competency level gets so enhanced that they are able to command, control, report, inspire and motivate every subordinate and local case managers in the organization. The development of the leadership quality in an organization is desired to develop the qualities of other subordinates and local case managers by foster teamwork, motivation to achieve the desired goal. Every subordinate and local case managers in an organization desire a leader who can motivate them, who can assist them when needed, who can resolve issues and guide them to achieve the target they are assigned (Chhokar, Brodbeck & House, 2013). Hence, it is my sole duty to set a good example in front of the other subordinates and local case managers as well as built a friendly relation with the manager so that the I can resolve all the issues and work as a team while motivating them to attain the specified goal.

To be a good leader I must attain the following capabilities for the betterment of the organization:

1.Gain the respected position, so that other subordinates and local case managers can follow

2.Collaboration of subordinates and local case managers both inter and intra organization

3.Communicate with proficiency and confidence

4.Enhancing loyalty and subordinates and local case managers’ engagement

5.Inspire, motivate other subordinates and local case managers to achieve the desired target

6.Adapt competitive advantage and innovation among subordinates and local case managers

7.Develop and coach excellent talent in the organization

8.Implement high-performance culture in the organization

9.Build teamwork and trust among each subordinate and local case manager

10.Sustain the quality and ability attained and operate efficiently

As stated by (Goleman, Boyatzis & McKee, 2013), there are three levels of leadership that are desired in an organization. Private and public leadership are the first two level of leadership which defines the outer level or behavioral level. This level comprises of four dimensions; motivating and share team purpose, collective team or unity spirit, action, progress and outcomes, and individual motivation. Private leadership consists of fourteen behaviours for influencing subordinates and local case managers one by one and public leadership consists of 34 behaviours that influence two or more people eventually. The third level is the personal leadership. This is the inner level that focuses on developing the ability and skills to become a perfect leader. This has three aspects- enhancing right attitude and behavior towards other subordinates and local case managers, technical skills to achieve the goal efficiently and psychological foundation for being an efficient leader. To be an efficient leader I will always focus on developing other subordinates and local case managers which in turn will benefit the organization (Kark & Shamir, 2013).

Critically discuss the importance and application of research and evidence informed practice for you as a manager or leader, within the outlined practice context. 

The main role I play in my organization is the following:

1.Desired at all levels-Leadership role is a criterion required at all different levels of management. The middle level must plan and implement the programs that are framed by the top-level management. Efficient leadership skills are desired by assisting each employeewhile implementing the plan (Hackman & Johnson, 2013).

2.Representative of the organization- The representative of the organization is the leader. It’s my duty to represent the meetings, conference, seminars, etc. I must have effective communication and also need to be a representative of the team.

3.Engagement of organizational goals to personal goals- It’s my sole duty to combine the personal goals of each subordinate and local case managers to the organizational goals. The efforts of each subordinate and local case managers must merge into common goals to achieve the organizational objective, this is the responsibility of the leader to implement. This can be done efficiently by influencing other subordinates and local case managers to share a common goal while fulfilling the organizational goal.

4.Support others- I am wholly responsible for entertaining and gaining support from subordinates to achieve the targets. This can be done by experience, intellectual skill, and personality that I must hold to gain support which in turn will obtain positive outcomes. If needed, I can ask for a suggestion from other subordinates and local case managers that will build a trust among the subordinates and local case managers for me which in turn will motivate the subordinates and local case managers towards their task.

5.Guide as a philosopher and friend- I always maintain a friendly relation with my subordinates, by which other subordinates and local case managers can share their emotions, opinions, and feelings. As put forwarded by (Marion & Gonzales, 2013), a leader can be a philosopher by guiding each subordinate and local case managers in terms of queries or issues whenever required. At times, I can be a counselor by a problem-solving approach and solving the issues subsequently. This, in turn, will motivate the contractors as well as subordinates towards the attainment of organizational skills.

As opined by (Tannenbaum, Weschler & Massarik, 2013), leadership is an essential function in an organization to enhance the efficiency of workers while achieving the organizational goal. Hence, the importance of leadership is high in terms of organization. The leader is the person responsible for communicating the updated plans and policies to the subordinates. A leader is the one to initiate the action so that the low-level management starts their work for fulfilling the task assigned. Motivating the subordinates by the rewarding system and positive complements can complete the given task which can be done efficiently by a leader. The duty of a leader is not only to supervise the subordinates but to assist them wherever required. Guiding them to perform the task efficiently is essential. Boosting up the confidence level among subordinates and local case managers by making them understand about their desired role, solving queries and listen to their complaints is desired by the leader. This will create a healthy environment at the workplace which in turn will increase the productivity. A leader must increase the morale of each subordinate by cooperation and gaining their trust that will increase the performance level of the subordinates towards the specified task (Men & Stacks, 2013). A leader must treat its subordinates based on the humanitarian ground by hearing their problems and creating a friendly relation with them. This will help to build a healthy and stimulating environment at the workplace which will be benefited to achieve organizational goals and each subordinate will give their best to attain it. Coordinating with subordinates and local case managers will reconcile organizational goal with the personal goals. Efficient cooperation and coordination are desired from the leader to implement this action. It is the sole duty of the leader to show the direction to subordinates for achieving the organizational goals. A leader attains his position by the help of its followers and this can be achieved by forming a strong bond with each subordinate. Following own instinct, while considering the organizational terms and policies are part of a good leadership. A leader must always consider the views of each subordinate and local case managers before taking a decision as this will have a direct impact on the work of each subordinate (Western, 2013). A leader must be proactive and should recognize each subordinate in terms of future development. Leadership is solely based on communication. Hence, the importance of a leader in an organization is required to increase the efficiency of subordinates and in my case the local case manager which in turn will increase the profitability of the organization that I always try to follow.

Organizational leadership:

Leadership is a skill that can be inbuilt or attained through efficient training. Organizational leadership involves both expert tactics and human psychology. Organizational leadership focuses on enhancing leadership abilities and skills that are required in terms of organization. It states that an individual must overcome the hurdles with its own abilities and also enhance those abilities at times. The leader must be capable to handle a group of individuals at all times. As stated by (Antonakis & House, 2013), an efficient organizational leader should never have a dominating nature towards other rather should have the ability to guide each individual to fulfill the assigned job and also show them the appropriate direction in terms of their job role. Individual, who attains the leadership quality in an organization, develops the abilities of teamwork, conflict resolution, effective communication and also group problem-solving methods. Individuals who have the urge to lead with higher energy level; self-confidence and intelligence tend to achieve the leadership qualities fast than others who are slow. Organizational leaders communicate efficiently with subordinates regarding mission, policies which ensure subordinates morale, efficient business operations and increases the efficiency of each subordinate that in turn benefits the organization towards the achievement of goals. As put forwarded by (Parris & Peachey, 2013), it’s the responsibility of the efficient leader to set an example in front of others by leading and motivating towards desired goals and will result in positive outcomes. Boosting the morale of each subordinate is desired by a leader to enhance the efficiency of each subordinate and local case managers. A leader must encourage all subordinates and take initiative to solve the queries of subordinates; this will motivate the subordinates and will gain commitment towards the organization. Working as a team is desired in an organization for enhancing the creativity of subordinates and local case managers. A true leader should never consider a higher authority as this will create a negative impression on the subordinates rather support each subordinate whenever desired (Avolio & Yammarino, 2013). This will increase the motivation and also encourage subordinates to achieve the desired goal in the organization. Strategic communication and effective listening in terms of subordinates can create a healthy environment at the workplace. This, in turn, will achieve the organizational goal and business growth as well. Hence, leadership in an organization is desired and I always try to enhance my abilities as a leader to guide my subordinates and form a good relation with the local case manager.

As opined by (Mintzberg, H. 1989), Mintzberg’s theory on management described the effective ways to run an organization successfully. The leadership role in an organization is to accomplish the general functions of management such as developing subordinates, planning and strategizing, controlling, organizing and leading. Mintzberg developed three discrete roles that are desired in the management level of an organization- decisional role, informational role and interpersonal role.

Apple Inc. is an organization that has an efficient manager or leader Tim Cook to achieve the success. After the death of Steve Job, Time Cook took the company at its peak level. The leadership of Tim Cook is efficient in such a way that every subordinate at Apple Inc. gives their best to achieve success. The leadership of Cook is appreciated globally and the subordinates are also happy as now the decisions that are made in the organization are taken with the consideration of the subordinates.

As opined by (Noruzy et al. 2013), Apple's commanding structure helps a solid control over the organization. Liberal system engages the leader Tim Cook regarding controlling each part in the organization. The solid control of Cook and senior vice presidents in the organization with the engagement of subordinates helped Apple Inc. to attain the position in the competitive market. The organizational of Apple consists of six essential parts by the model of Mintzberg:

1.The top management

2.The middle management

3.Operating core, comprises operational processes

4.Techno structure which involves analysts that designs processes, systems, etc.

5.Support staff who supports the outside of operating workflow


According to Mintzberg, organization has an exclusive need to be innovative in terms of intense dynamic technology or product competition in accordance with the decision of subordinates. This is a typical case of Apple. With the view of the subordinates Apple has formed an effective organizational structure with its innovative culture. At Apple Inc. the decision making power is centralized and is solely held by the top management or the strategic apex, hence Tim cook is turned out to be efficient in his position. The ideology of Apple has a huge effect towards the motivation of the subordinates and local case managers. An entrepreneurial organization has centralized structures and is quite true in terms of Apple. As stated by (Bass, 2013), Apple is a highly-centralized company with a single key decision maker Cook who turned about an excellent leader by supporting each subordinate in the organization and also started reward system to satisfy its subordinates.

The relation between Job’s leadership style and Apple’s organizational structure is the centralized structure. Job has a direct influence towards the small details of the business under this organizational structure which is an essential characteristic of the leadership style he follows. In terms of Mintzberg's administrative model, there are numerous organizations and people who fall under this category. Steve Job is the notable figure for his efficient leadership quality and the achievement of his organization Apple Inc. As expressed by (Felício, Gonçalves & Conceição Gonçalves, 2013), Steve Job is the world's leading man to accomplish the position held by his organization. Mintzberg's managerial role expressed, the best leader is the individual who faces different obstacles and difficulties in the target market yet play out the desired goal professionally. Steve Job has developed gradually in his own particular manner by being an efficient leader while accomplishing an example in the world. As per Mintzberg's interpersonal style, Steve Job has turned into the good example of different new leaders while driving his organization at its pinnacle.  Each members of Apple Inc. are satisfied with the leadership role played by Steve.

Mintzberg’s model is precisely distinct by its standardization. The work done at Apple is highly formalized with the collaboration of top management and low level management. The organizational structure of Apple Inc. has formed an authoritative structure with the coordination of subordinates. The low-level subordinate depends on the top administration to keep up unified control. The decisions that are made in the organization are taken solely based upon the needs and requirements of the subordinates, as their satisfaction will lead the business to its extremist level. Each division of Apple has its own particular head that has control every part under proficient supervision. The representatives at Apple Inc. are motivated as well as encouraged because of their engagement and helpful conduct of top level administration. The leadership style followed by Tim Cook has created a direct impact on the subordinates towards their work efficiency.

Hence, with the view of leadership style of Apple Inc. it can be well said that without an effective leadership strategy an organization can never grow nor can develop its strategies. As put forward by (Du et al. 2013), a team can never guarantee success if the leader is not efficient to provide effective guidance to the subordinates and local case managers. An efficient strategy is required to guide the subordinates and for efficient function of the team. Even if an organization has a centralized decision maker, it’s the sole duty of the leader to communicate with the subordinates. A true leader must be aware of the style to implement for enhancing the efficiency of subordinates and the way to lead them. Situational leadership is often effective in an organization based on specific situation. There can be times different types of conflict arise in the organization, at that moment an efficient leader will change his style to cope up with the situation and resolve the issue efficiently. Direct leadership style can be used when the leader has a self-sufficient team which will help to lead the team without being concerned about the team performance. At these times, the leader will provide input when required. As opined by (Choudhary, Akhtar & Zaheer, 2013), A leadership style can never be copied but can be followed as different kind of situation arises at different times. Hence, proper guidance and knowledge is required with basic instinct to resolve the issue. Enhancing the abilities of a leader is desired in an organization to cope up with the changing policies in the organization. Training programs and feedbacks of participants is desired to enhance the skills and abilities of a leader for the benefit of the organization. If the leader won’t upgrade then it will have a negative impact on the workability of the organization which will affect the profitability and subordinate’s efficiency in the organization. Hence, it is my sole duty to assist my subordinates and also Local case managers as well as guide them in such a way that it will benefit SSI.


In this assignment, the learner has well described the qualities and strategies desired in an organization to increase the profitability of the organization as well as the impact of efficient leadership role or managerial role. The learner has provided the example of organization Apple Inc. in which precise details of the leadership style of Tim Cook is described which can be followed by all organization. An organization can grow its business only if it has an efficient leader who can think about both the benefit of organization and satisfaction of its subordinates.
