In other cultures, parenting strategies are different from western cultures. This depends on what the kid’s parents want. As an example, if a kid is participating in a bike race competition and wins the first prize, instead of getting congratulated, he gets grounded or punished.
When it is about the food, the culture varies differently. Some parent make their children eat the full plate of food and also restrict them from eating as per their wish. Even sometimes they are forced to eat something which they do not like. There are also other cases where parents give freedom to their kids to have whatever they like but if they do not finish what they are having, then they get punished for wasting the food.
The main three examples of culture-specific factors that should be identified and considered are language and dialect, religion, and wealth. Language is the main factor that affects one workplace the most. It differs everywhere and creates a big cultural difference along with complicated working environment. Here a different dialect creates linguistic complications and also generates a probability that other factors will differ. Religion is also a big factor that creates differences. For example, it can be argued that Bavaria and Austria have more in common than the rest of Germany.
The practices that must be in a workplace to support cultural diversities can be explained as, learning about the cultural backgrounds, lives and interests by talking to the employees. Other than this to make the climate more comfortable, one must build relationship with the employees with different cultures through increased understanding and trust. It is very important that the authority makes sure that all the employees participate in all the social activities in the workplace. Organizing collective meals would be very beneficial if all the employees share food and get to know about each others cultures.
There are some communication techniques which should be considered for developing or modifying work practices. These can be listed as;
Co-operative behavior: Co-operative behavior is the main parameter that helps make one workplace comfortable and helps develop the work practices.
Information sharing: There may be a lot of difficulties in a workplace. When some of the employees have information of solving the problem, they must share them with others from different cultures or prospects. This helps modifying the working techniques.
Dealing with conflicts: When a workplace of any kind, like an office or a school is disturbed by any problems or conflicts, it can be dealt with by getting united as one team. This promotes respect and sensitivity in the cultural beliefs.
One must be sensitive towards the distinction in their cultures and different cultures; to recognize those dissimilarities which have the ability to be a barrier for all cultural and healthy interactions. Letting these differences stay means trust and relationship is built, which can be achieved only with an open and honest interaction among everyone. The most effective interaction is communicating face-to-face. There is also much more information that should be attained from gestural interaction than there is from what one says or writes. Except gestural cues, it is very simple to misapprehend one's intention. Vocal tone, facial expressions and shrugs are unfavorable to effective communication.
. For assisting team members and helping them increase their quality of work, feedback is a very good option. Negative and positive feedback helps in improvement of one’s individual works. Asking for suggestions from senior colleagues and accordingly sharing those with the colleagues are effective strategies for improvement. Interactions or effective communication is a greater option for acknowledgement or innovations. Providing encouragement, undertaking extra tasks if necessary, agree and share tasks, planning and scheduling for the tasks are the fundamentals for innovative workplaces.
There are a lot of ways to promote and celebrate innovations in an organization. Some of the best ways which can be defined are;

Hiring for culture: Understanding other visions and aligning with other cultures are also a big factor for innovative thoughts.

The perception of diversity depends on acceptance and respect. This term means understanding and accepting each individual’s thoughts. Every individual has their own prospects in their work. Sometimes it is seen that some employees love what they do and there comes innovation in their work. The acceptance of their work and respecting their innovations, is what this term is means by.
The National Quality Framework is a part of Australian Government’s agenda which takes care of early childhood education and childcare. This focuses on the Australian families who are of high-quality with an accessible and affordable financial background. This is done to provide early childhood education and child care.
The main components of National Quality Framework are,
The National Law and National Regulations, the National Quality Standards, an assessment and quality rating process, and mainly the national learning frameworks.
The provisions for National Regulations are;

4. Service approval and supervisor certificates.
5. Arrangements to move existing services into the new system.

Case Study 1: July
a) In the present situation, July should understand the situation of Annette and try and find a situation which is in agreement to both of them. July should convey her message properly to Annette about her work responsibilities and how the indoor-outdoor program functions does. She should not demonstrate any signs of racism towards Annette owing to her health problems or caste. The decision that July takes should be fair and ethical and such that the problem arisen solves.
b) The conflict here is that Annette who has replaced Mark for four weeks does not want to assume Mark’s responsibility due to her health issues and no interest in sports. She cannot stay outdoors for long as her skin is sensitive to cold weather. This conflict could be solved if July and Annette both adjust and manage the duties properly. They can allocate timings where each one will spend equal number of hours managing children’s outdoor activities. They can make a new schedule which will ensure that both July and Annette gets equal number of hours to spend with children in engaging them in outdoor activities. This will ensure that Annette’s heath is not affected and the work is also not hampered. This way both July and Annette will be able to manage their duties well and the work effectiveness will be maintained.
Case Study 2: Trainee
a) Jo should be approached when she is working alone and is not around Lee. I will not approach Jo when she is concentrating on her work but will approach her when she is sitting idle. I will approach Jo in a manner that she does not find it demeaning or insulting. The manner will be such that Jo understands what I am saying and we can establish an effective communication between us. By approaching her in the right manner, the situation can be handled properly if the way I approach her is in the correct manner.
b) When in approach Jo, I will first ask her what problems or issues she has with me so that I am able to understand her point of view well. Only after knowing her problems I will be able to solve the differences between us. This establishment of an effective communication will help us in future to work together and not face any problems in the work front at least.
c) After understanding Jo’s issues and problems I will try and solve the differences she has with me. I will rectify the mistakes that I am committing and even tell her to rectify the mistakes that is happening on her part. This adjustment between us will help us to collaborate and work. Development of a little understanding between Jo and me would help us to achieve the desired goals.
d) By maintaining an effective communication I will follow this up. An effective and healthy communication can solve any problems and so I will try and maintain one to make sure that we do not face any differences in future.
Case Study 3: Infection Control
a) Firstly, I will speak to the lady who came to me to speak in confidence. I will tell her to keep the issue to herself for the time being and not tell anyone so that there are no ugly confrontations. Then after dealing with her, I would speak to the long time educator in person who is diagnosed with Hepatitis B. Without revealing the name of the person I will tell him about the issue that has arised. I will ask him to take the necessary precautions so that the infection is not spread.
b) Firstly, I will try and prevent any confrontations between both the parties because that may cause a blow-up. Secondly, I will talk to everyone in person so that I can have a better understanding of the situation that is prevailing. I will also advise the person diagnosed with Hepatitis B to take the necessary precautions and medications to prevent the spread of infection. If required, I will also grant him a leave to medicate himself properly.
c) I would follow up the outcome by keeping a close watch on the situation myself. I will grant a few days leave to the long time educator to medicate himself. This will appease the people who were having concerns regarding the infection control practices. Both the parties will be informed separately about the line of action that has to be taken in future.
Case Study 4: Why don’t they just bring their own lunch
a) The problem here is that Ella is not being able to forego her methods of cooking as per the changing tastes of the people. She is not being able to adapt herself to the cultural based food requirements of children and insists on following the cooking methods she was using previously. She is not being able to deal with the dietary implications of children and is getting flustered.
b) Firstly, I would talk to Ella and try to explain her that she cannot be adamant and has to adapt to the shift in culture based food changes and the dietary implications. She has to be explained about the differences of culture based food and how it is creating an issue among the parents. When dealing with the parents, I will firstly apologize to them for the mistakes that have happened regarding the serving of food. I will even assure them that the same mistakes will not be repeated in future and the food habits of the children will be taken care of.

Gia ( 4 years)
The people at the centre need to acknowledge each other’s cultural background and have some knowledge about it. They need to have an open mind, practice non verbal methods of communication and maintain a personal touch with the children. By maintaining a personal touch the children will feel more comfortable and will be able to express themselves better. They even need to focus on Gia’s behavior to understand what she is trying to convey through her actions, gestures and facial expressions. Since Gia is a four year old kid, the people at the centre have to be very careful while understanding and observing her behavior so that they understand what she wants to convey. Her needs have to be understood so that the childcarers can take care of her in a proper manner.
In this situation, I will be dealing with Elifa. Firstly, I need to understand what message she is trying to convey to me regarding her child’s needs and behavior. I will have to be open to the intercultural communication and patiently understand what she means to say by communicating in broken English. Since she is taking English classes, the language of communication with the child will be English.
Assessment Task 4: Portfolio Evidence
Dealing with children is not an easy task and needs a lot of care and patience. The new co-worker should first be asked to assist a senior childcarer for a few weeks to understand and learn how to deal with kids. This way the new co-worker will observe the various methods in which the senior staff deals with the myriad situations that are presented in front of him. The new co-worker should be taught the various ways of handling children and making them feel comfortable. If the new co-worker is able to make the children comfortable then he will also be able to establish an effective communication with them also. A proper training workshop can also be conducted for the new co-worker so that he becomes acquainted with the behaviors of children and ways to deal with it.
Honesty is the most important leadership skill that any individual should possess. If the leader is honest with his co-workers then only will he be able to tell them what work is expected from them and where they are lacking in their efforts. The honest feedback will help the co-workers to improve themselves and even give them motivation in case of a positive feedback. Communication is another important skill as an effective communication can pave way to a healthy work relationship where the delegation of duties becomes easier for the leader. The leader should also possess positive attitude and confidence which will influence his workers to work better. The leader should be a good guide to his followers because he will be entrusted with the task of explaining the workers their work and guiding them throughout their task. The leader should also have negotiation skills because there will be many situations where he will have to negotiate terms with the workers or within the workers.
To maintain professional relationships, the co-workers need to develop trust among themselves so that they can be open and honest about their thoughts and views. Trust can only be established if everyone is honest with each other and have a healthy flow of communication between them. Mutual respect is also very important to maintain a professional relationship which can be done by respecting each other’s viewpoints, thoughts and creativity. Positivity is also important because while working a team the co-workers need to be optimistic and motivate each others to work better. The co-workers should also be active listeners so that they can understand the thoughts of the other person which will help them to establish effective communication among themselves.
While inducting a new staff member in a childcare setting, the new staff should be given a job description and a brief about his roles and responsibilities in the childcare home. The new staff member should be introduced to the organizational structure and all his documents should be verified before carrying out the relevant paperwork. The new employee should be introduced to the existing employees of the child care home. The new employee should be informed about the safety measures to deal with children and given a few weeks of training so that they are habituated with how to deal with kids. The safeguarding procedures should be discussed with them and a training workshop should also be organized.
A training process is very important for the employees in any workplace. The employees in a childcare setting need to be trained on how to deal with children and handle the various situations that they may encounter. The training needs can be identified by analyzing an employee and understanding the areas where they are lacking to perform their duties. A training session would help them to understand and perform their work better. If an employee is joining new then he needs to be trained so that he understands his job and the organizational structure. An existing employee needs to be trained so that they are updated with the current practices and trends.
The employees can get a learning opportunity if the organization provided them with training and workshop classes. The leader can also follow up with the employees about their work to get constructive feedback. He can ask the employees for their suggestions and ideas on how to improve the organization or more ways to benefit the organization. Feedback can also be collected by asking the employees to fill a feedback form in which they can rate the structure of the organization and provide their suggestions.
It is very important that the feedback provided to the employees is done in a positive way so that they do not take it in the wrong spirit. The employees can be provided with constructive feedback when a performance discussion is going on. In the performance discussion, every employee’s performance is evaluated and the employees can be provided with their performance feedback. The employees can also be provided with specific performance pointers to help them perform their jobs well. They can be provided with corrective guidance and coaching discussions to let them know where they are lacking in efforts. The employees’ performance can be reviewed by the method of statistical data which will help the organization to review the work done by the employees so that they can provide them with constructive feedback to make their work more efficient.
The conflicts in the workplace can be reduced by setting up guidelines regarding workplace conflicts. These guidelines will involve reporting of the conflict to the supervisor, taking actions regarding it and preventing it from taking place in future. An effective communication needs to be established between the employees so that no conflicts occur due to lack of communication or misunderstandings. Effective communication will ensure that the employees are well informed about each other’s work and thoughts. The workplace should have a friendly environment so that the employees feel free and open to express themselves. The employees should maintain discipline and adhere to the rules and regulations of the organization to avoid conflicts and promote co-operation.

The cultural differences have implications on work relations. The differences among the people hamper the work relations and affect the flow of work. If some individuals are having cultural differences then this will affect their work relations as they would not want to communicate with each other. This communication barrier will affect their work as the flow of information will get disrupted hence, hampering the smooth flow of business. The cultural differences can hamper the team work also due to the interpersonal conflicts among the employees. The organization should form strict laws against discrimination and inform every employee about it. The employees should know about the laws and also the implications if they do not adhere to it. The managers should be well trained and non-bias towards their employees so that the employees do not hold any grudges against the manager or their fellow employees. A performance standard and performance appraisal plan should be prepared so that the performance of the employees can be reviewed honestly and the biasness can be eliminated. The performance standard measures will give the supervisors a clear idea about the work executed by them and the accuracy by which they do it. The organization before taking a decision should think about all the employees to avoid bias and discrimination. The organization should form strict laws to stop racial and gender discrimination.
The intercultural conflicts can be resolved by understanding the view point of the individuals and trying to find out the real reason of their conflict. The individuals should understand the differences and similarities of in their culture and then try and resolve their conflicts. If the situation is going out of hands then the immediate supervisor or manager should intervene in the situation and mediate the terms to both the parties.
The employees should understand and respect each other’s cultures so that cultural diversity can be included in the business management. The organizations can conduct an annual meet of employees which will have different cultural activities so that the employees become more tolerant towards the different cultures and values of individuals.
