This topic is selected because the automobile industry of Australia is going under a great change. The manufacturing plants of many companies in Australia are on the verge of their end. The popular brands like Toyota, Holden, and Ford which used to rule the market have to withdraw their operations which are needed to be discussed. The main objectives of the research are:

2)Literature Review: 

The automobile industry of Australia has a range of companies which perform on different levels according to their supply chains, capacities and growth in the industry in the past years (Senate, 2015). Australia has a very long and proud history of automobiles and its manufacturing in the country. It was a small nation that had the capability of producing a car right from the conception to the delivery of the product. At first, the production of the vehicles started in Australia mainly by three companies which were Ford, Holden and Toyota in Victoria and South Australia. These companies are the global multinational companies which designed and produced models of vehicles in Australia. The automobile industry of India is almost the 5% of the total manufacturing industry of Australia on the basis of capital expenditure, no. of working hours and employment given to people. Over 48 thousand people are employed in this industry which includes the work of assembling of cars and other vehicles (Warren & Gibson, 2013).

Ford Motor Company was the first big car manufacturer in the nation. The car production was on full swing and growth throughout 20th century. In 1970, almost half a million of cars were produced in Australia which was the 10th highest in the world. Australia was best known for the production of its vehicles because of its design and unique processes of production but the production began to fell in the year 2009 and now Australia began to import the vehicles from other countries like Europe and Asia. In the beginning, everything was well going but soon the production fell to the lower numbers of the cars and other vehicles. At present, few car makers in Australia are Ford which is basically an American company, Holden which became a subsidiary of General motors’ in the year 1931 and  Toyota which is based in Japan. Earlier the companies like Mitsubishi, Nissan, Renault, Volkswagen and many more were also a part of the Automotive industry of Australia ("Driven away; Car making in Australia", 2014).

The car industry of Australia is almost dead now. Australia is now importing cars instead of manufacturing. The big giants like Holden and Toyota are shutting down their production units in the nation. This will not only affect the industries of Australia but will also impact the life of people as shutting down the production plants will take the jobs of thousands of people. According to (BusinessDay, 2015), the car manufacturing industry of Australia was directly providing jobs to 45000 people. The reasons behind this much talked shutting down of Manufacturing of cars in Australia are many like high Australian dollar, the barriers faced while doing trade, the Free Trade Agreements and division of Australia’s car market.  The companies wanted to stay because they were having the good export market from Australia like in Middle East. Like Toyota was the company which decided to start up production in Australia and it was the first country after Japan where it decided for setting up production. From the top 13 countries for manufacturing cars, Australia history of manufacturing cars is finally coming to an end (Maiden, 2014).

There was a strong competition in the industry providing the consumers with huge variety of choices to choose from both in luxury and non-luxury markets but the economic and political issues between the government and the giant vehicle manufacturers damaged the future plans of these companies. The costs of manufacturing the vehicles are very high in Australia which is not assisted by the government and it is affecting the final profitability of the brand. Every industry faces the boom and downfall in its lifetime and same happened with the Australian car industry. The unsupportive economic and political conditions bring downfall of the industry and there is a great need of the assistance provided by the government for the restructuring of the same to bring the same position gain for the industry in the markets of Australia (Lynch & Hawthorne, 2015).

The top brands of automobile industry in Australia is Toyota with the total sales of 206,236 units, it dominates the market with 17.8% share which is followed by Mazda with the market share of 9.9% followed by Holden with 8.9% share (Nuttall, 2016). There are certain government programmes which will encourage the automotive industry of Australia like Automotive Transformation Scheme (ATS), Automotive Diversification Programme (ADP) and Automotive Industry Structural Adjustment Programme (AISAP) which are made for encouraging the markets of automobiles in Australia by innovation, competitiveness, capacity of manufacturing or by providing training and assistance (industry.gov.au, 2016).

It is clear from the above literature that the automobile industry is on the verge of end and the famous brands which were on the top in the industry once are now shutting down their manufacturing plants because of many reasons like high dollar rate and no support from the government. It can be said that the Australian automobile industry is dead now and all the vehicles will be imported now which were used to be manufactured in Australia. It also results in the loss of thousands of jobs which will shake the economy of the nation. It also results in the losses to the companies who are shutting down their manufacturing plants. There are few problems which are discusses in the research paper. One of the main problems is that the potential of the Australian automobile industry is vague. It is important to determine to analyse that what is the potential of the automobile industry in Australia. What will be the next step of the current major players in the industry which had to face a huge amount of loss due to the shutdown of the industries and how they are going to deal will it. Are the customers still interested in purchasing the cars of the brands which are shutting down their operations? These all questions are going to address the main problem which is the scenario of the Australian automobile industry in future.

4)Research methodologies:

This is one such section of the research which shows that how the research will take place and what all methods will be adopted for the same. Research Design refers to the detailed outline which shows how the research is held. The current research on “Automobile Industry of Australia” is done through mixed method of research in which multiple ways are adopted to explore the problem of the research and to reach a conclusion by collecting the data. Here, the qualitative and quantitative methods are used for conducting the research where both qualitative and quantitative data is collected through different sources. Mixed approach is used to explain the problem and interpret it easily and to strengthen the data collected by the single approach. The main aim of the research is to find out the current and future scenario of the automobile industry of Australia.

The sampling is done for conducting the questionnaire and randomly 100 employees and experts of automobile industry are selected which are provided the questionnaire in Australia. These 100 questionnaires are distributed, the responses are collected and then they are analysed with the help of statistical tools to present in the form of tables and charts for giving a better presentation to the data collected in quantitative form.

Research is a systematic process which is conducted with an objective to derive findings with the help of information collected through various sources so that the research can be concluded. Every research follows a process which is described below:

Identify the problem:the first step in every research is to recognize the problems which mean developing the questions of the research. It can be the knowledge which is to be acquired by the company, industry or for searching a trend for national interest. Like in the present research the research questions are to identify the scenario of the automobile industry of Australia at present and to know its future.

Literature Review: When at first, the problem is identified, the next step is to learn about the topic and do the detailed investigation on it by referring various sources of information. The literature from different sources is reviewed. In this step, the foundation of the topic is reviewed through the studies conducted. The statistics related to the topic are reviewed; different views of different people are studied. Various articles, journals and reports are reviewed to make a genuine conclusion of the study. Clear the problem of the research: Here, the problems of the research are clarified with the help of the knowledge in the step 2. The focus is made on a narrow topic and the problem is researched.

Definition of the terms and concepts used in the research:The next step relates to the clarification of the definitions an terms which are used in the survey to make it easy for the user or reader to understand.  It makes easy for the researcher to collect the necessary data for the research and make the concepts clear to the users.
