For creating this mind map, a tool has been used. Mindmup is a tool which helps in the creation of a mindmap. This mind map has been prepared for the purpose of depicting the cultural identity, values, beliefs and behaviours. These cultural elements create an impact on the culturally competent practitioner providing services in a multicultural health care environment. These elements of the personal cultural identity discussed in the above-attached Mind map are crucial as these elements provide shape to the belief, behaviour and nature of the individual. The most important elements of the cultural identity are education, Family and friends, values and life experiences which are responsible for shaping the behaviour of the practitioner. All these elements affect the identity of the individual and are responsible for the behaviour of the individual towards the others. In health and social care sector, it is vital to adopt a behaviour which helps in enhancing the quality of the health and social care services provided to the service user. As a health care practitioner, there is a need to adopt various values which help in providing proper HSC services to the user. While working in a cross-cultural environment, there is a need to learn the manner in which the different aspects of the cross-cultural environment are dealt in. family and friends provide a shape to the way an individual think. Another major contribution is of education. My family and friends have provided me the initial knowledge and education which guided my thinking and behaviour towards the users of the HSC services. Education is a key element which forms a base for the thinking of the individual. Education have contributed in making me a knowledgeable person and developed my capabilities and skills. Values or principles help in providing proper care to the users of the service. Values or principles such as equality, honesty, integrity, independence, respecting diversity and social inclusion provides a direction to the manner in which services are offered to the service user of the health and social care setting. These values have encouraged me in providing quality services to the users of the HSC. Life experiences have contributed in the overall growth and development of me. These life experiences are helpful for me in dealing with the different situations. Gender is another important element as gender may act as a barrier.
There are different elements of a personal cultural identity and these different elements include education, family and friends, ethnicity, practices and habits, life experience, choices, creation, beliefs, gender, appearance and many more. These elements affect the behaviour of the individual. The most important elements are family and friends, education, life experiences and values. These elements are the key determinants which help in the determination of the values, beliefs and behaviour of the individual (Bridges, et. al., 2011). These elements have affected my behaviour at the workplace which is a cross culture health care environment. The major impact is the family and friends as the behaviour of the individual is shaped by the surrounding in which it is surviving or living. The family and friends develop the individual and provide shape to the perception of the individual towards the things. The basic values are provided by the family and friends. For working in a cross culture or multicultural health care environment, there is a need to understand the concept of diversity and differences in culture (Dauvrin & Lorant, 2015). Understanding of these concepts helps in analysing the issues or the problems, which may arise while working in a cross culture environment. I have been living in a cross-cultured environment as my surrounding is full of people from different culture. All these elements of the personal culture identity have directed my behaviour for providing better services to the users of the service. All the values need to be applied in a proper manner for the purpose of ensuring that quality services are provided to the users. The major focus of the health and social care setting is on ensuring better health of the public. Differences in culture create differences in the language used and the manner in which communication is done. This affects the quality of the services offered.
Being a health and care practitioner in the cross culture, there is a need to understand the concept of diversity as management of diversity is important. Different individuals have different habits, taste, preference and culture. For providing them proper and effective care, there is a need to under the concept of cross culture. Education has also supported me in enhancing my behaviour and providing a shape to my beliefs. I have adopted different values which have helped me in providing quality services to the users of the health and social care services. For being a culturally competent practitioner, there is a need to learn how to work in a cross culture environment. In cross culture environment, most important issue is communication as there may be chances that communication acts as a barrier between the service provider, service users and other service providers. Meeting the needs of the users of the service is the objective of the health and social care sector as health and wellbeing are the main aim of this sector (Entwistle, et. al., 2010). Values adopted by me have helped in enhancing the quality of HSC services offered by me to the users. Learning the manner in which services need to be provided in the cross-cultural health environment will help in enhancing the quality of life of people. These elements of the personal cultural identity differences in different individuals as these are gained or possessed by every individual in a different manner. Gender has also acted as a limitation for providing services. For example, male practitioners are comfortable in taking night shifts and female practitioners may feel uncomfortable in taking night shifts (ERIS, 2012). The experience which individual gains also help in providing quality services to the users of the service as well as gaining help from the past experiences. Education develops the thinking of the individual and helps in enhancing the knowledge of the individual. All these aspects have helped me in enhancing the quality of the services offered to the users of the service in the multicultural health care setting (Galloway, 2013).
Maintaining the quality of the health and social care services is an important aspect which needs to be ensured. Family and surrounding of the individual is the most important element which influences the behaviour of the individual (Schim & Doorenbos, 2010). My family have supported me in treating the people belonging from different cultures in an effective manner by identifying their needs. Family and friends affect the values adopted by the individual as the values adopted by the individual are based on the values or principles adopted by the family. These aspects can affect the life of the individual in a positive as well as in a negative manner. The experiences which I have gained in my life have helped me in enhancing the values adopted by me and changed my views towards the cultural differences. I have used the experiences for providing better care to the users of health and social care services. This experience has helped me in ensuring that high-quality services are offered to the service user. All these aspects of the identity have helped me in changing my behaviour towards the cultural differences and the manner in which the cultural differences need to be dealt in for providing better services. For the development and improvement in the health of the users of the service, quality of the services needs to be maintained.
