Introduction

Environment sustainability may be defined as the responsible utilization of environment to avoid depletion or degradation of natural resources.  It is crucial for an organization to implement and monitor environmentally sustainable work practices. This work demonstrates different effective strategies to reduce the environmental impact of IT workgroup. This report also incorporates a plan to implement different strategies for reducing environmental impact. Th

e plan includes different tools and techniques to measure success.   

This report incorporates the case study of Rhyde collage in order to make the deep understanding of the environmentally sustainable work practice. According to the provided case study, the college intends to implement a plan for sustainable work practice.

Five strategies to reduce environmental impact of the it workgroup

It is crucial for an organization to minimize the negative impact of its organizational activities on the environment. It is the responsibility of an organization to develop the strategies in order to minimize its negative impact on the environment as well as to conserve it. There are different factors associated with IT which reflects adversely on the environment.  The main environment issue which can be arises due to business operations of an IT company are carbon emission, water usage, solid waste etc. 9Drolet, et al. 2015).

There are different strategies that can be adopted by an organization to reduce its environmental impact are:

1. Reduce, recycle and reuse ( Waste Minimization)
2. Energy efficient and eco-friendly electronic  machines or appliances

5. Clean energy

Reduce, reuse and recycle

Reduce, recycle and reuse is one of the oldest, popular and effective strategy for the minimization of environmental impact of an organization. Reduce means minimizing the utilization of stuff which are responsible for the declining or degrading of the environment.  Reuse means using the waste things for another purpose or for the same purpose after implementing some modification. Recycling means turning wastes into other new and useful products. In the context of an IT company, this technique can be beneficial for minimizing carbon footprint (Jayasooria, 2016).

Energy efficient and eco-friendly machines or appliances

An organization adopts different machines or equipment in order to accomplish the different organizational task. The utilization of different machines gives rise to different environmental issues such as noise pollution. The sound coming out of the heavy machines is of high intensity and unbearable for the human ear. One of the other drawbacks of machines is their high consumption of energy.  In an IT company, the high energy consumption is the main problem that affects adversely to the environment, therefore, utilization of energy efficient machines can help in saving energy.

Rainwater harvesting is an important method to conserve the water for future. Every business organization needs a significant amount of water in order to operate its different business operations. Eco-friendly transportation

The utilization of eco-friendly vehicles is an effective strategy to minimize the carbon footprint. A company possess a huge volume of employees therefore if all employee uses eco-friendly ways for transportation than it reflects positively on the environment (Lippiatt, 2017).

Prohibition of harmful stuff

An organization uses different kinds of stuff which can be harmful to the environment. Use of disposal cups, plastic, inefficient and machines should be prohibited (Epstein and Buhovac, 2014)

Utilization of energy efficient and eco-friendly equipment can lead to the minimization of environmental impact of an organization. In the context of an IT company, the main reason behind the wastage of energy is inefficient machines or electronic equipment.

The proper utilization of energy efficient and eco-friendly equipment can help Rhyde collage in achieving their following organizational goals –

Reducing carbon emission level by 50 % in 2020

In the case of Rhyde collage, the old computers and, printers and incandescent bulbs are consuming more energy and are generating more heat.  These equipment are responsible for influencing the environment to a great extent (Targamadz?and Celiešien?, 2014).
